Beer Bakery
This exciting collaborative project brought together a group of Chicago natives who are living their dream by opening a truly unique bar in Breda, Netherlands — a vibrant space where delicious cupcakes meet carefully crafted micro-brews. The concept blends the warmth and charm of a bakery with the lively atmosphere of a bar, creating a one-of-a-kind experience for locals and visitors alike.
I was invited to contribute by helping shape the interior design as well as develop the branding for this innovative bar-bakery hybrid. We explored a variety of creative directions, aiming to capture the spirit and personality of the founders while appealing to their target audience.
The final design they chose, which became the top concept, perfectly encapsulated the welcoming, fun, and slightly nostalgic vibe they wanted to convey. However, a strong contender was the second concept, which resonated deeply with millennial culture — featuring texting icons and a grunge-inspired aesthetic. The distressed texture of the text evoked the image of flour dusted across a bakery counter, as well as the comforting feel of a favorite worn-in t-shirt. This subtle, tactile reference helped bridge the gap between the digital and tactile worlds, connecting the brand to its youthful, tech-savvy audience while still maintaining a handcrafted, authentic feel.
Ultimately, this project was a rewarding blend of creativity and collaboration, resulting in a space and brand identity that not only reflects the founders’ roots and passions but also offers a fresh, inviting destination for anyone craving great cupcakes, craft beer, and a memorable atmosphere in the heart of Breda.
